University Project, 2013
This DIY LEGO® combine harvester was part of an experimental media art installation which reflected on the cycle of production, consumption and disposal of food. The installation consisted of 18 different projects all linked together to form an (endless) cycle. The combine harvester illustrates the step of harvesting.
It was built using parts from a LEGO® mindstorm robot, an Arduino board with an electret microphone and some electronics. The computer uses a webcam to track the fiducial attached to the harvester. It further processes the video feed using reacTIVision and plays an animation of a real combine harvester in parallel to the movement of the DIY robot.
